Our Background

Mission Vista, formerly known as Mission Vista Group Home, opened its first residential program for adults with developmental disabilities in 1972. Mission Vista Group Home was located in Wenatchee, Washington, and served 20 adults at that time. In 1974 Mission Vista added an additional service by opening a children’s residential program called Hillside Group Home. By 1988 an executive decision was made to close Hillside House and focus on serving only adults with developmental disabilities.

In 1981 Mission Vista added a tenant support program, initially for ten adults, called Supported Living, as an alternative to group home living. Unlike the group home model, the Tenant Support Model (now known as Independent Supported Living or ISL) was not a facility-based program. Participants live in the community wherever they choose to live and are supported by staff while exercising “Power and Choice” in the day to day decisions of their lives. In this system, staff are sent into participants’ homes to train and provide needed assistance to maintain the goal of independent living. It is the belief of Mission Vista that people with developmental disabilities have the right to live, learn, and work in the community of their choosing.

Mission Vista began providing Vocational services in 1996. Our Vocational team assists adults with Individual Supported Employment, providing job searching services, resume building, job development, application assistance and interview support. Mission Vista Vocational services also include support and follow up with one-on-one job coaching available to ensure job skill building and retention. Community Inclusion services are also provided to integrate in our greater communities for those not in employment.

In 2007 Mission Vista began the first of two 24 hour Supported Living programs assisting some participants living at both Hillside House and Mission Vista Group Home to move to their own apartments in Wenatchee. Hillside House was subsequently closed in July 2007.

In October 2010 we developed our second 24 hour Supported Living program and the remaining participants living at the Mission Vista Group Home were moved to their own apartments in East Wenatchee and the group home was closed. In the 24 hour Supported Living program, participants live in an apartment complex where Mission Vista provides 24-hour staff support.

Currently, Mission Vista supports over 30 individuals with developmental disabilities to live in their own homes in the Wenatchee Valley community. Our Vocational department serves over 95 participants with job searches, on the job supports, and integrated community activities locally.

As a non-profit private agency since 1972, Mission Vista continues to provide excellence support services to the developmentally disabled community in the Chelan and Douglas County area of Washington State. It is our great privilege to support a mission and vision that creates an inclusive community for our community
