Description
Job summary: Vocational Specialist staff members are responsible for assisting individuals with developmental disabilities to obtain and maintain successful employment in the community through Individual Employment Services and to obtain integration in the community through Community Inclusion Services. The primary functions of the job are job searching, job development, and job coaching and maintaining consistent professional contact with local employers. Community Inclusion functions include assisting with community activities and volunteer positions. Completing and maintaining required documentation are also key functions of the position.

Key Responsibilities:
Assisting individual clients in exploring potential career options.
• Plan and facilitate (with individual clients) service planning meetings, being sure to perform invites for all pertinent people in a timely manner that allows for maximum participation.
• Create and maintain resumes for individual clients.
• Job search and job development independently within the community.
• Assist and support clients in obtaining training as applicable.
• Assist, support, instruct and encourage clients in the areas of interview skills and appearance.
• Accurately evaluate job tasks in potential employment positions.
• Assist and support clients in learning new job tasks.
• Assist clients in asking for job accommodations.
• Assist clients in gaining independence at work through the development of natural supports and job accommodations.
• Assist, support, and coordinate with clients to assure basic transportation needs to and from employment activities are met.
• Obtain copies of client paychecks for the month by the last business day of the month.
• Monitor and record client hours worked, noting any days off and reasons for time off.
• Maintain consistent, professional communication with client supervisors as a means of supporting clients.
• Assist Community Inclusion clients in identifying personal interests and favorite activities.
• Supporting activities that encompass the individual’s interests and allow for integration in the community and development of relationships with non-paid persons.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for each individual assigned.
• Attend annual case manager meetings for individual clients and report accurate support information.
• Other activities as required of the program and agency for the assurance of quality

Qualifications:
• 1-2 years’ Experience caring for others in a registered and/or medical facility preferred
• Driver’s License with Transportation: Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation.
• Background Check: Successful applicants will need to pass a background check.
• Computer Skills: Proficiency in basic computer skills is required.
• High School Diploma: Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Self-Starter: We’re looking for individuals who are proactive and self-motivated.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
This job requires the physical ability to lift up to 50lbs., and physical stamina for tasks like lifting and transferring clients. Also to assist clients with mobility, requiring strength and endurance with or without accommodation. Including emotional resilience for empathy and patience. Remaining in a stationary position at least 50% of the time, occasionally move about inside the work environment, operate office productivity machinery (such as a computer), occasionally ascend/descend stairs, and constantly communicate and exchange accurate information is required with or without accommodation. Visual, verbal and audio acuity are required with or without accommodation.
